Via Lingua International is partnering with the following charities to provide educational resources and tools for students and teachers around the world.

Porto

PortoIn the beautiful old Portuguese city of Porto, Via Lingua offers, in association with Encounter English, one of Portugal's best and most well-established chains of language schools, the chance to obtain a TEYL (Teaching English to Young Learners) certification. This 2-week summer course offers 2 weeks integrated training, including 60 hours of tuition and 6 hours of practical teaching practice, focusing on the differing techniques needed to teach younger learners aged 5-10. Demand for teachers with these highly specialised skills is soaring around the world, and this additional program and certificate will provide you with both the know-how and credibility to launch yourself successfully into this fascinating and rewarding market. The course is highly practical in nature and is designed for those who already have a basic TEFL certificate.

Mention the city of Porto and most people immediately think of the world famous Port wine, but the city has much more to offer than this. There are many interesting sights to be seen both inside and around the city and it is no coincidence that Porto was chosen as the European Capital of Culture for 2001.

The oldest part of the city has been classified a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and this zone includes a vast collection of monuments, churches and public buildings surrounded by Medieval houses that take you on a journey back in time.

The Douro river also takes you through time with the various bridges spanning it, some from the 19th century (one of which was designed by Gustavo Eiffel) and some completed more recently. The river is also the place to watch the port wine barges bringing the produce from upriver to be aged in the many port wine lodges. In these same lodges you can learn about the wine, which has taken the name of this city to all corners of the globe, and also enjoy a free tour and tasting session.

Continuing down the river to the sea, you will find the impressive and attractive Atlantic coastline with its long avenues and sandy beaches.

Porto is also about its people, traditional activities and spaces, such as the busy commercial areas, gardens, plazas and peaceful hideaways.

Porto is home to a varied and tasty (yet inexpensive) cuisine and with the discos and clubs of Matosinhos, the elegant bars and cafes of Foz and the outdoor restaurants and bars of the Ribeira; you will never be at a loss for something to do in your free time.
